Cinematography Example ~ Composition, framing and symbolism!

With this image I wanted to highlight the natural tunnel framing from the trees surrounding the path, this creates strong leading lines providing a central vanishing point that draws the viewers eyes deep into the frame. This helps create a forced perspective that enhances depth and narrative pull for the viewer. The path functions as a primary leading line and the trees act as secondary converging vectors.

I also wanted the depth layering to be clearly and easily separated into three sections.

~ Foreground: Leaf covered ground and nearest trees

~ Midground: The defined woodland trail

~ Background: Distant light and thinning trees, this layered construction enhances the readability of the image allowing the viewers eye to travel through the image.

Following on from the eye path and visual flow of the image, the viewers eye enters at the bottom of the image in the centre and follows outward towards the tree line which creates a looped eye path which increases frame engagement time.

Similarly with this image the vocal point is the winding path running through the setting of a grave yard, this could symbolise memory and grief. This is because graveyards are spaces of memory and the winding path could show that grief is not linear and that healing is a winding and challenging journey. The path could also be used as a physical manifestation of remembering, where a character could be walking through the past.
